How Do I Get a Custom Domain on Weebly?

Last updated on December 30, 2022 @ 7:05 am

A custom domain is an important way to brand your Weebly site and give it a professional look. You can buy a custom domain directly through Weebly, or you can use a domain you already own. This article will show you how to get started with both options.

Option 1: Buy a Custom Domain Through Weebly

Weebly makes it easy to buy a custom domain right through their platform. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log in to your Weebly account and click on the “Domains” tab in the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Click on the “Buy New Domain” button.
  3. Enter the domain you’d like to register in the search bar and click “Search.”
  4. Weebly will search for available domains and show you a list of results. Select the domain you want and click “Continue.”
  5. Enter your contact information and payment details. Once everything is entered correctly, click “Submit Order.”

That’s it! You’ve successfully purchased a custom domain through Weebly.

Option 2: Use a Domain You Already Own

If you already have a domain elsewhere, you can use it with your Weebly site as well. Here’s how to set that up:

  1. Log in to your Weebly account and click on the “Domains” tab in the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Click on the “Use Domain I Own” button and enter your domain name in the box that appears.

Note: If you are using GoDaddy as your registrar, you will need to whitelist Weebly’s IP address before proceeding.

  1. Click on the DNS Zone File tab and add two A records for @ and www that point to 199.34.228.100 and 199.101 respectively.

Note: These are Weebly’s IP addresses for shared hosting, which may be different if you are using Weebly’s Business or Performance plans.

PRO TIP: Warning: Weebly no longer offers the ability to map a custom domain name to a Weebly site. Any existing custom domains will continue to work, but you will not be able to create new ones.
  1. Click Save Zone File at the bottom of the page.

Note: It may take up to 48 hours for these changes to propagate.

  1. Back in your Weebly account, click Verify Domain & Continue.

That’s it! You’ve successfully added a custom domain to your Weebly site.
