How Do I Make a Dashed Line in Photoshop?

Dashed lines are a great way to add visual interest to your images, and they’re relatively easy to create in Photoshop. Here’s how:

1. Create a new layer in your Photoshop document.

2. Select the Brush Tool from the Toolbox, and choose a small, hard-edged brush from the Brush Presets palette.

3. Set the Foreground color to black, and click once on the document to draw a small dot.

4. Press and hold the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac), and click on the dot you just created to duplicate it.

5. Drag the new dot to the desired location for your first dash, and release the mouse button when you’re happy with its placement.

6. Repeat steps 4-5 until you have created a row of dots that forms a dashed line.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, creating a dashed line in Photoshop can result in an unsightly mess. Be sure to use a small brush size and to create a new layer for the dashed line. Work slowly and gingerly, and you should be fine.
