How Do I Open a Raw File in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:00 am

If you’re a photographer, you probably know that Photoshop is a program that can be used to open and edit RAW files. But what exactly is a RAW file? A RAW file is a file that contains all of the data captured by your camera’s sensor, and it’s not processed or compressed like a JPEG file.

This means that RAW files are larger in size than JPEGs, but they offer more flexibility when it comes to editing. So, if you’re looking to edit your photos in Photoshop, you’ll need to open them as RAW files. Here’s how:

1. Launch Photoshop on your computer and click on “File” in the top menu bar.

Then, select “Open” from the drop-down menu.

2. In the Open dialog box that appears, navigate to the location of the RAW file that you want to open. Select the file and click on “Open”.

3. A second dialog box will appear, asking you to select the image settings for the RAW file.

Here, you can choose how you want Photoshop to interpret the data in the file. Once you’ve made your selections, click on “OK”.

4. The RAW file will now be open in Photoshop and ready for editing!

Conclusion:

Opening a RAW file in Photoshop is easy! Just launch the program and click on “File” > “Open”.

Then, navigate to the location of the RAW file and select it. Once you’ve made your selections, click on “OK” and the RAW file will be open in Photoshop and ready for editing!

PRO TIP: Due to the fact that raw files contain unprocessed data, it is important to be aware that opening a raw file in Photoshop may result in unpredictable results. In some cases, Photoshop may not be able to open a raw file at all. If you do attempt to open a raw file in Photoshop, it is recommended that you save a backup copy of the file beforehand.
