How Do I Open an Action in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 10:02 pm

There are many ways to open an action in Photoshop, but the most common method is to use the File > Automate > Play Action menu item. This will open the Action dialog, which allows you to select the action you want to play.

If you have multiple actions saved, you can use the drop-down menu to select the one you want. When you’re ready, click the “Play” button and Photoshop will run the action.

Another way to open an action is to double-click on the action file itself. This will launch Photoshop and automatically start playing the action.

PRO TIP: This article provides instructions on how to open an action in Photoshop. However, it is important to note that these instructions are for opening an action that has already been downloaded or created. Attempting to open an action without first downloading or creating it may result in errors.

You can also launch Photoshop and then go to File > Open and select the action file. This will open the action in Photoshop but will not start playing it automatically.

Once an action is open in Photoshop, you can edit it by going to Window > Actions. This will open the Actions panel, which allows you to view all of the steps in an action and make changes as desired.

To edit a specific step, simply double-click on it. When you’re finished making changes, click the “Save” button at the bottom of the panel and then close it.

The last thing to know about opening actions in Photoshop is that they can also be opened from within other Adobe applications such as Lightroom and Bridge. To do this, simply go to File > Automate > Play Action and select the action you want to play.
