How Do I Point My Domain to Wix?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 10:31 am

If you have a domain name from a registrar other than Wix, you can connect it to your Wix site. To do this, you need to change your domain’s DNS (Domain Name System) settings.

Before you begin:

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

  • Make sure that your domain is not already connected to another site.
  • If you bought your domain from Wix, you don’t need to connect it. It’s already connected.

To connect your domain from a registrar other than Wix:

PRO TIP: If you are planning to point your domain to Wix, please be aware that Wix does not support DNS management. This means that if you want to use a custom domain with your Wix site, you will need to transfer your domain registration to a third-party provider that does support DNS management.
  1. Log in to your domain registrar’s account.
  2. Find the page where you manage your DNS settings (this is different for each registrar).
  3. Replace the current DNS settings with the following:
Record Type Host Points To TTL
A Record @ 52.210.47.121 1 Hour (3600)
A Record www 52.121 1 Hour (3600)

Important!: You must include the “www” A record (shown above) in order for your domain to work with Wix.

If you’re having trouble connecting your domain, contact your registrar’s support team and ask them to “change my DNS settings to the ones shown above” (be sure to include the “www” record). They can help you locate the right page to change these settings.

Once you have updated your DNS settings, it can take up to 72 hours for the changes to go into effect.
