How Do I Save a Copy of a Figma File?

Last updated on December 2, 2022 @ 5:21 am

Figma is a vector graphics editor and design tool, primarily used by web designers and front-end developers. It is available as a web app and as a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Figma is free to use for individuals and teams of up to 3 people, with paid plans for larger teams.

So how do you save a copy of your Figma file?

There are two ways to do this:

1. Click File > Save a Copy… in the top menu bar.

2. Right-click on the file in the left sidebar and select Save a Copy… from the context menu.

A dialog will appear asking you where to save the file. Figma supports saving files to your local drive, or to cloud storage services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive.

PRO TIP: When saving a copy of a Figma file, be sure to select the correct file format. If you are unsure which format to use, ask your instructor or a Figma expert.

Once you’ve selected a location, click Save and your file will be saved as a .fig file.
