How Do I Set Up Conversion Tracking in WooCommerce AdWords?

Last updated on January 20, 2023 @ 1:55 pm

If you’re running a WooCommerce store, and using Google AdWords to drive traffic to your site, then you’ll want to set up conversion tracking. This will allow you to see how many sales or other conversions are being generated from your AdWords campaigns.

There are two parts to setting up conversion tracking in WooCommerce AdWords: installing the conversion tracking code on your site, and then setting up the actual conversion goal in AdWords.

Installing the Conversion Tracking Code

  1. Log in to your WordPress site and go to the Plugins section.
  2. Search for “WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration” and install and activate the plugin.
  3. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Integration, and enter your Google Analytics UA code. Save changes.
  4. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced, and make sure that “Enable ecommerce tracking” is checked.

Setting Up the Conversion Goal in Google AdWords

  1. Log in to your AdWords account and go to Tools > Conversions.
  2. Click on the +Conversion button and select “Website.”
  3. Enter a name for your conversion goal, such as “WooCommerce sale.”
  4. Leave “Category” set to “Purchase/Sale.”
  5. Under “Value,” select either “Don’t assign a value” or “Use different values for each transaction.” If you choose the latter, you’ll need to add the order total amount as a macro in the conversion tracking code that you’ll add to your site.
  6. Check the box for “Count,” and then click on “Create and continue.”
  7. On the next screen, select “Install the tag yourself.”
  8. Copy the code that’s generated, and then go back to your WordPress site.
  9. Paste the code into your theme’s header.php file, just before the tag. Save changes, and you’re done!
PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with WooCommerce and AdWords, it is best to consult with someone who is before setting up conversion tracking. There are a few steps involved in the process and if done incorrectly, it could result in inaccurate tracking data.
