How Do I Translate a Checkout Field in WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:42 am

When you first set up WooCommerce, you will be asked to select a default language. This is the language that will be used for all front-end text, including checkout fields. If you later change your store’s default language, all front-end text will automatically be translated to the new language.

However, checkout fields will not be translated automatically.

To translate a checkout field in WooCommerce:

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Checkout. Alternatively, go to WooCommerce > Checkout if you are using WooCommerce 3.0 or later.
  2. Click on the Fields tab.
  3. Hover over the field that you want to translate and click on the Edit link.
  4. In the Field Translation section, enter the translated version of the field label and/or placeholder text in the respective fields.
  5. Save Changes

You can use the same method to translate other strings in WooCommerce, such as product names, categories, etc. Simply go to WooCommerce > Settings > General, and look for the Default Language setting. From there, you can select your desired language and save changes.
