How Do I Update My Shopify Theme?

Last updated on January 10, 2023 @ 6:40 pm

Shopify is a platform for businesses of all sizes to create an online store. It offers users a customizable platform, an easy-to-use checkout process, and a wide range of features. One of the most important aspects of Shopify is the ability to update your theme.

This allows you to change the look and feel of your store without losing any of your data or settings. There are two ways to update your Shopify theme: via the Theme Store or by uploading a new theme file.

Updating Your Shopify Theme Via the Theme Store

The first way to update your Shopify theme is via the Theme Store. The Theme Store is a marketplace where you can browse and purchase themes from independent designers. To update your theme via the Theme Store, simply login to your Shopify account, go to Online Store, and then click on Themes.

From here, you can either click on Visit Theme Store or Add New Theme. If you click on Visit Theme Store, you will be taken to the ShopifyThemeStore.com website where you can browse through themes and purchase the one you want. Once you have purchased a theme, it will be automatically installed on your Shopify store.

If you click on Add New Theme, you will be taken to the Add New Theme page on the Shopify website. On this page, you can either upload a theme file from your computer or select one from the Shopify Theme Store. If you select a theme from the store, it will be automatically installed on your store.

Uploading a New Theme File

The second way to update your Shopify theme is by uploading a new theme file. To do this, first, you will need to download the new theme file from the internet or from wherever you have stored it on your computer. Once the file has been downloaded, go to Online Store, and then click on Themes.

On the Themes page, click on UploadTheme. On the UploadTheme page, click on Choose File, select the new theme file from your computer, and then click on Upload. Once the file has been uploaded, it will be automatically installed on your store.

PRO TIP: If you are not a Shopify expert, do not attempt to update your theme on your own. Doing so could result in a broken website that is difficult to fix. Instead, always contact a professional Shopify developer to make any changes to your theme.
