Blending options in Photoshop let you apply different effects to different parts of an image. You can use them to create interesting effects, or to simply change the way an image looks.

There are many different blending options available, and they can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some tips on how to use blending options in Photoshop.

One of the most popular uses for blending options is to create a vignette effect. To do this, you first need to create a new layer.

Then, click on the ‘Create new fill or adjustment layer’ icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose ‘Gradient Map’ from the list. Next, click on the ‘Gradient’ tool in the toolbar and choose a black and white gradient. Drag the gradient from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of the image.

Now, go to the Layers panel and double-click on the layer you just created. This will open the Layer Style dialogue box.

In here, change the ‘Blend Mode’ to ‘Soft Light’ and reduce the ‘Opacity’ to around 50%. Finally, click ‘OK’ to close the dialogue box.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that Blending Options in Photoshop can be complex and may not produce the desired results if not used correctly. We advise only experienced users attempt to use this tool.

Another popular use for blending options is to create a HDR (High Dynamic Range) effect. To do this, you need to have two images – one exposed for the highlights and one exposed for the shadows.

Create a new layer and drag one of the images onto it. Then go to Image > Adjustments > HDR Toning and select ‘Natural’ from the drop-down menu.

Next, go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels and drag the middle slider to the right until it is just before where the histogram starts to clip. This will increase the contrast in your image.

Now drag your second image onto a new layer and position it over your first image. Make sure that this layer is underneath your Levels adjustment layer.

Finally, change the ‘Blend Mode’ of your second image layer to ‘Linear Light’ and reduce its opacity until you are happy with the result.
