How do I vectorize an image in Illustrator?

Vectorizing an image in Illustrator can be a bit complex, but it can be done with a few simple steps.

First, you will need to create a new vector graphic. In Illustrator, go to File > New > Vector Graphic.

This will open up the New Vector Graphic dialog box.

PRO TIP: When vectorizing an image, it is important to use the correct settings in order to avoid losing image quality. The default settings for “Image Trace” in Illustrator are often not ideal for vectorizing photos, and can result in pixelated or jagged edges. It is therefore recommended to adjust the settings manually before tracing the image.

Next, you will need to select the Paths and Lines tool from the Illustrator toolbar. This will allow you to create paths around your image.

Once you have created your paths, you will need to select the Go To Path tool from the Illustrator toolbar. This will allow you to select a specific path in your image.

Next, you will need to choose the Edit > Cut Path option from the Illustrator toolbar. This will allow you to cut the selected path out of your image.

Finally, you will need to choose the Edit > Paste Path option from the Illustrator toolbar. This will allow you to paste the cut path back into your image.
