How Do Shopify Refunds Work?

If you need to issue a refund for an order placed on your Shopify store, you can do so from the Orders page of your Shopify admin. To issue a refund:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Orders.

2. Click the order that you want to refund.

3. Click Issue refund.

4. In the Refund summary section, enter the following information:

  • Amount to refund: Enter the amount that you want to refund.
  • Reason for refund: Select the reason for the refund from the drop-down menu.
PRO TIP: If you are thinking about using Shopify to process refunds for your customers, there are a few things you should know. First, when you refund a customer through Shopify, the refund will go back to the original payment method that was used. This means that if a customer paid with a credit card, the refund will go back to their credit card. If the customer paid with PayPal, the refund will go back to their PayPal account. Second, it can take up to 10 business days for the refund to appear in the customer’s account. This is because Shopify has to send the refund request to the payment processor, and then the payment processor has to process the refund and send the money back to Shopify. Finally, Shopify does not charge any fees for processing refunds. However, if you are using a third-party payment processor like PayPal or Stripe, they may charge their own fees for processing the refund.

5. In the Restock items section, select the checkbox next to each item that you want to restock, and then click Restock items and issue refund. This action refunds the order and restocks the items.

6. In the “Issue Refund” pop-up modal, click Issue Refund. This action refunds the order without restocking any items.
