How Do WooCommerce Order Numbers Work?

WooCommerce order numbers are generated by the WooCommerce plugin and assigned to orders automatically. Order numbers are used to identify orders in the database and make it easy for customers to reference their order number when contacting customer support.

WooCommerce order numbers follow a specific format that includes the year, month, day, and a sequence number. For example, an order number might be formatted as 2020-01-01-0001.

The first part of the order number, 2020-01-01, corresponds to the date the order was placed. The four digits at the end of the order number, 0001, correspond to the sequence number for that day. The sequence number is incremented for each new order that is placed.
