Last updated on November 26, 2022 @ 12:55 pm

Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool – the first interface design tool with real-time collaboration.

Although it’s primarily used for interface design, Figma can also be used for illustration and animation. The software is available on macOS, Windows, and Linux. In this article, we’ll focus on how to add effects in Figma.

There are four types of effects in Figma:

  • Color: This effect changes the color of an object. To add a color effect, select an object and click on the “+” icon in the top left corner of the interface. Then, click on “Color” in the drop-down menu.
  • Blur: This effect blurs an object. To add a blur effect, select an object and click on the “+” icon in the top left corner of the interface.

Then, click on “Blur” in the drop-down menu.

  • Transparency: This effect makes an object more or less transparent. To add a transparency effect, select an object and click on the “+” icon in the top left corner of the interface. Then, click on “Transparency” in the drop-down menu.
  • Drop Shadow: This effect adds a shadow to an object. To add a drop shadow effect, select an object and click on the “+” icon in the top left corner of the interface. Then, click on “Drop Shadow” in the drop-down menu.

To remove an effect, select the object with the effect and click on the “x” icon next to the name of the effect in the top left corner of the interface.

To change an effect, select the object with the effect and make changes in the properties panel on the right side of the interface.

PRO TIP: Adding effects in Figma is a great way to add interest and depth to your designs. However, if not done carefully, they can also make your design look cluttered and busy. When using effects, less is often more. Use them sparingly and only when they add something truly special to your design.
