How Do You Add Gridlines in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:40 am

Gridlines are an important part of any image, whether you’re a web or graphic designer. They help you align elements on your canvas, and can make a big difference in the overall look of your work. Photoshop has a few different ways to create gridlines, and in this article we’ll show you how to do it.

First, let’s take a look at the Photoshop Preferences. To get there, go to Edit > Preferences > Guides, Grid & Slices.

In the preferences window, you’ll see options for Gridline Every _ inches, and Subdivisions. The first option determines how often gridlines will appear on your canvas, while the second option determines how many subdivisions there will be between each gridline. For example, if you set the Gridline Every option to 2 inches, and the Subdivisions option to 4, you’ll get a total of 8 subdivisions between each gridline.

PRO TIP: Adding gridlines in Photoshop can be tricky and may result in unwanted lines or distortions in your image. Be sure to test your gridlines before committing to them, and be sure to save your work often in case you need to undo your changes.

Now that we’ve covered the basics of setting up gridlines in Photoshop, let’s take a look at how to actually add them to your image. There are two ways to do this: by using the Grid tool, or by creating a new guide layout.

If you want more control over where your gridlines appear, or if you want to use them as a guide for other elements in your image, then the Grid tool is probably the better option. To use it, simply select the tool from the Tools palette (it’s under the Line tool), and then click and drag on your image to create a grid. You can also change the size of the grid by adjusting the options in the Tool Options bar.

If you just want to quickly add some gridlines to an existing image, then creating a new guide layout might be a better option. To do this, go to View > New Guide Layout. In the New Guide Layout dialog box, enter the number of columns and rows that you want, and then click OK. Photoshop will automatically add guides to your image based on your settings.

So there you have it! Now you know how to add gridlines in Photoshop using both the Grid tool and guide layouts. Experiment with both methods to see which one works best for your particular project.
