How Do You Change Roles in Canva?

Last updated on December 9, 2022 @ 3:14 am

As a design tool, Canva is used by millions of people around the world to create stunning visuals. Whether you’re a marketer, a small business owner, or an individual, chances are you’ve used Canva to create graphics for your website, social media, or even for print.

While Canva is mostly known as a way to create visuals, did you know that it’s also possible to change roles in Canva?

Yes, it’s true! If you have a Canva account, you can actually change your role from “creator” to “editor” or “viewer.”

PRO TIP: If you are working on a design in Canva and need to change the role of a team member, be aware that there is no way to do this within the design itself. You will need to go to the team management page and change the role there.

So, how do you change roles in Canva? It’s actually pretty simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Log in to your Canva account. If you don’t have a Canva account yet, you can create one for free at Canva.com. Once you’re logged in, click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen and select “Account settings” from the drop-down menu.
  2. Click on the “Security & Privacy” tab. This tab is where you can change your password and enable two-factor authentication (which we highly recommend!). Scroll down until you see the “Roles & Permissions” section and click on the “Edit” button.
  3. Select your new role. You can choose to be a “Creator,” an “Editor,” or a “Viewer.” If you’re not sure which one to choose, here’s a quick breakdown:

    • Creator: This is the default role and gives you full access to all of Canva’s features. You can create new designs from scratch or edit existing ones.
    • Editor: This role allows you to edit designs that have been shared with you. You can also duplicate these designs and use them as templates for new designs.
