How Do You Make a Checkbox in Figma?

Last updated on November 29, 2022 @ 6:38 am

There are two types of checkboxes in Figma: the Boolean checkbox and the Radio button. The Boolean checkbox is used for on/off states, while the Radio button is used for mutually exclusive options.

To make a Boolean checkbox:

    1. Select the frame or component that will contain the checkbox.
    2. In the layers panel, click the add layer icon and select “Boolean” from the menu.
    3. A new layer will be created with two sub-layers: “True” and “False”.
    4. Drag the “True” sub-layer onto the canvas. This will be the default state of the checkbox.
    5. To add an interaction, select the “False” sub-layer and click the “+” icon next to the “On Click” event in the events panel.
    6. Select “Set Boolean value to false” from the menu.
    7. Now when you click on the checkbox, it will toggle between its two states.

To make a Radio button:

1. Select the frame or component that will contain the radio button. In the layers panel, click the add layer icon and select “Radio Button” from the menu. A new layer will be created with two sub-layers: “Selected” and “Deselected”. Drag the “Selected” sub-layer onto the canvas.

This will be the default state of the radio button. To add an interaction, select the “Deselected” sub-layer and click the “+” icon next to the “On Click” event in the events panel. Select “Set Radio Button value to selected” from the menu. Now when you click on the radio button, it will change to its selected state and all other radio buttons in its group will change to their deselected state.

PRO TIP: This article contains outdated information about Figma. The checkbox feature has since been removed from Figma.
