How do you make a heart in Illustrator?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 6:42 pm

Illustrator is a great tool for creating vector illustrations. To create a heart, start by creating a new document in Illustrator and setting the width and height to 500px. Draw a circle using the Rectangle tool (M) and fill it with a dark color such as black. Next, use the Ellipse tool (L) to create a smaller circle around the larger circle.

Make sure the smaller circle is positioned slightly inside the larger circle. With the Selection tool (A), select the small circle and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl+C). Finally, use the Paste Special command (V) to paste the small circle into the center of the larger circle. Make sure the small circle is positioned exactly in the center of the larger circle.

To create the heart’s interior, use the Ellipse tool (L) to create a small circle and fill it with a light color such as pink. Next, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) to create a series of small circles around the pink ellipse.

Make sure the small circles are positioned around the center of the pink ellipse. Finally, use the Selection tool (A) to select all the small circles and copy them to the clipboard (Ctrl+C).

To create the heart’s exterior, use the Ellipse tool (L) to create a large circle and fill it with a dark color such as black. Next, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) to create a series of small circles around the black ellipse.

PRO TIP: This question is asked frequently on design forums, but it is important to note that there is no one definitive answer. While there are a few methods that can be used to create a heart in Illustrator, the best way to approach this design element is to experiment with different techniques until you find a method that works best for your needs.

Make sure the small circles are positioned around the outside of the black ellipse.

To create the heart’s center, use the Rectangle tool (M) to create a small rectangle and fill it with a light color such as pink. Next, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) to create a series of small rectangles around the pink rectangle.

Make sure the small rectangles are positioned around the center of the pink rectangle. Finally, use the Selection tool (A) to select all the small rectangles and copy them to the clipboard (Ctrl+C).

Next, use the Pathfinder palette to merge the small circles, rectangles, and squares into one object. To do this, click on the Pathfinder button (Window > Pathfinder) and select the Union command from the Pathfinder palette.

Finally, use the Paste command (V) to paste the merged object into the center of the heart shape.

Your finished heart should look something like the image below.
