How Do You Make a Tapered Tumbler Template in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 3:45 pm

As anyone who’s done any woodworking knows, a tumbler is a drinking glass with tapered sides. They’re also called “tulip glasses” because of their shape. Making a template for one in Photoshop is easy, and there are a few different ways to do it.

The first way is to use the Ellipse Tool (U). Draw a perfect circle, and then go to Edit > Transform > Warp. From the Warp drop-down menu, select Arc Lower. Drag the top anchor point inward until you have the desired taper.

Another way is to use the Pen Tool (P). Draw a line straight up and down the center of your canvas. Then, draw another line perpendicular to that one at the top and bottom of the canvas. Select both lines and go to Edit > Transform > Warp.

Once you have your template, you can use it to cut out your tumbler from wood or whatever material you’re using. You can also use it as a guide for etching or painting.

PRO TIP: This template is for personal use only. Do not sell or distribute this file. If you do sell tumblers made with this template, please give credit to the original designer.

Creating a tapered tumbler template in Photoshop is simple and only requires basic knowledge of Photoshop tools and commands. This guide will show two methods on how to make a tapered tumbler template in Photoshop; both methods are easy and produce great results.

The first method employs the use of the Ellipse Tool (U). To start off, draw a perfect circle then go to Edit > Transform > Warp. After selecting Warp, choose Arc Lower from drop-down menu that appears.

To create the desired taper, simply drag top anchor point inward.

The second method also makes use of basic Photoshop tools; however this time we will be using Pen Tool (P). Begin by drawing line straight up and down center of your canvas followed by another line perpendicular to first one drawn but this time at top and bottom of canvas.

Select both lines then go Edit > Transform > Warp once again. Choose Arc Lower from drop-down menu; finally create desired taper by dragging top anchor point inward.

After completing either method described above, you should now have your very own tapered tumbler template! This newly created template can now be used for cutting out tumblers from wood or any other type of material as well as serving as guide for etching or painting.
