How Do You Mask in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 12:39 am

Masking in Figma is a way to create an object in one frame that hides the objects in another frame. It’s useful for creating things like hover states, or for making sure that an object in a frame is only visible when it’s on top of another object.

To mask an object, you’ll need to create a frame that covers the object you want to mask. Then, you can use the opacity tool to make the frame semi-transparent, or you can use the invert option to make the frame completely transparent.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that masking in Figma can be tricky and may not work as expected. If you are not careful, you may end up with unwanted results.
