Select Subject is a feature in Photoshop that allows you to quickly and easily select the subject of an image with a single click. This can be useful for many purposes, such as isolating the subject of an image for further editing, or creating a mask to remove the background from an image.

In this article, we’ll show you how to turn on Select Subject and how to use it to select the subject of an image.

First, open your image in Photoshop. Then, go to Select > Subject.

This will open the Select Subject dialog box. Here, you can choose how you want Photoshop to select the subject of your image. There are three options:

  • Auto-Select: Photoshop will automatically select the subject of your image based on certain criteria. This is the quickest and easiest option, but it may not always give you the results you want.
  • Manual Selection: With this option selected, you can manually select the subject of your image by clicking on it with your mouse.

This is a more precise method, but it can be time-consuming if your image is large or complex.

  • Layer Mask: This option allows you to create a layer mask that you can use to isolate the subject of your image. This is a more advanced option, but it gives you more control over the selection process.

Once you’ve chosen an option, click OK. Photoshop will then select the subject of your image according to the method you’ve chosen.

If you’re happy with the selection, you can proceed with further editing or masking. If not, simply Undo (Ctrl/Cmd+Z) and try again with a different method.

How Do You Turn on Select Subject in Photoshop?

To turn on Select Subject in Photoshop, go to Select > Subject. This will open the Select Subject dialog box where you can choose how you want Photoshop to select the subject of your image: Auto-Select, Manual Selection, or Layer Mask.

PRO TIP: When using Photoshop’s “Select Subject” tool, be aware that it may not work as expected on some images. In particular, it may have difficulty selecting subjects that are very small or that have low contrast with their background. If you are not satisfied with the results of the tool, you may need to use a different selection method.
