How is DigitalOcean billed?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 1:54 pm

DigitalOcean bills its users in three ways: by the hour, by the month, and by the year. Hourly billing is the simplest option, with charges applied each hour a user is active.

Monthly billing applies a flat fee for every month of service and charges begin immediately. Yearly billing applies a flat fee for every year of service and charges begin on the first day of the month following the year of service.

PRO TIP: DigitalOcean is billed hourly, so if you create a droplet and delete it an hour later, you will still be charged for that hour. If you create a snapshot of a droplet, you will be charged for the space that snapshot occupies.

DigitalOcean offers a number of discounts for students and employees of certain organizations. These discounts vary by country and by plan type, but they generally include reduced hourly and monthly rates, and free or discounted storage sizes.

DigitalOcean offers a number of tools and resources to help users manage their accounts and use the service more effectively. The company maintains a blog and a support forum, and provides extensive documentation on its website.
