How long does GoDaddy hold a domain after it expires?

It is generally recommended that you renew your domain name at least 72 hours before it expires. If you do not renew your domain name, GoDaddy will automatically renew it for you, unless you cancel the renewal.

PRO TIP: If a domain expires, GoDaddy will attempt to sell it at auction and may give the original owner another chance to renew it. Otherwise, the domain will be deleted and made available for anyone to purchase.

Once your domain name has expired, GoDaddy will not renew it, and you will need to purchase a new domain name.
