Whether you’re just starting your website or you’ve been using Squarespace for a while, you may have a domain that you purchased from Google. While you can use this domain with your Squarespace site, we recommend transferring the domain to Squarespace. Doing so gives you more control over your site, and it simplifies your billing (all domains on Squarespace cost the same price).

If you decide to transfer your domain, the process is simple and only takes a few minutes. This article walks you through the steps.

Step 1: Get an authorization code from Google

Before you begin the transfer process, you need an authorization code from Google. This code proves that you own the domain and allows Squarespace to initiate the transfer.

To get your authorization code:

    1. Go to Google.com.
    2. In the top-right corner of the page, click My Account. You might need to sign in.

If you don’t see My Account, click Sign in, then click your profile photo or email address, then click My Account.
    3. On the left-hand side of the page, click Domains. Then click the name of your domain.

PRO TIP: If you are considering transferring your Google Domain to Squarespace, be aware that there is no guarantee that your site will remain active during the transfer process. Additionally, your DNS settings may be lost or reset, which could result in your site being inaccessible.

(Optional) If prompted, enter your 2-Step Verification code before proceeding.

5. A pop-up window appears with your authorization code.
6. Copy this code and keep it in a safe place; you’ll need it shortly.
7. Close the window.
8. In the top left corner of the page, next to “Domain:”, click and then select “Dashboard”.
