How Much Does UpWork Take Per Job?

UpWork charges a service fee that is a percentage of the total contract value. The service fee is deducted from each milestone payment or hourly rate payment you make.

For example, if you’re paying a freelancer $20 per hour and you’ve set up hourly payments, UpWork will charge a service fee of $0.40 per hour. If your freelancer completes 10 hours of work, you’ll be charged a total of $4 in service fees ($0.40 x 10 hours).

PRO TIP: Upwork takes a 20% commission on the first $500 you earn with a client, and 10% thereafter. They also charge a 2.75% processing fee on all payments. So if you’re not careful, you could end up paying a significant chunk of your earnings to Upwork.

The service fee percentage varies depending on the amount you pay your freelancer and your membership type. For more information on how much UpWork charges, please see our Pricing & Fees page.

Conclusion:

So in conclusion, UpWork takes a small percentage out of each job in order to keep the site running smoothly for both employers and employees.
