How Old Do U Have to Be to Work at Wix?

The legal working age in most states is 14, but there are some exceptions. Twelve and 13 year olds can work in certain jobs for limited hours with a work permit. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) sets the minimum age for employment in the United States at 14 years of age with some exceptions for 12- and 13-year-olds.

There are a variety of jobs that 12- and 13-year-olds can do with a work permit. These include office and clerical work, cooking with an electric or gas stove, cashiering, price marking and tagging, bagging, wrapping or tying merchandise, stocking shelves, setting up or taking down displays, and cleaning up around the store.

Jobs that 12- and 13-year-olds cannot do include manufacturing and mining jobs, driving a motor vehicle or operating power-driven machinery, cooking on an open flame, working in freezers or meat coolers, selling alcoholic beverages, working in elevators or boilers, roofing jobs, excavation jobs, and timbering.

In order to get a work permit, 12- and 13-year-olds need written permission from their parents or guardians as well as their potential employer. The application must be completed by the employer and returned to the child’s school district office. The school district will then issue the work permit.

The FLSA also requires that 14- and 15-year-olds have a written statement from their parents or guardians authorizing their employment as well as proof of age before they can start working. Jobs that 14- and 15-year-olds can do include office and clerical work; cooking with an electric or gas stove; cashiering; price marking and tagging; bagging; wrapping or tying merchandise; stocking shelves; setting up or taking down displays; cleaning up around the store; mowing lawns; shoveling snow; delivering newspapers; acting; modeling; playing musical instruments in an orchestra, band or ensembles; and babysitting.

Jobs that 14- and 15-year-olds cannot do include manufacturing and mining jobs; driving a motor vehicle or operating powerdriven machinery; cooking on an open flame; working in freezers or meat coolers; selling alcoholic beverages; working in elevators or boilers; roofing jobs; excavation jobs; timbering; meatpacking jobs involving exposure to extreme cold temperatures (-10°F/-23°C or lower); all forestry jobs involving sawmilling, lumbering operations or logging activities (including the operation of chain saws); operating power driven hoists including any power driven winch systems such as cable pullers used in construction work sites.
