Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool which is primarily web-based, with additional native apps for macOS and Windows. The Figma interface (similar to Adobe XD) can be seen as divided into three main panels: the canvas, the editor and the properties. These panels can be moved and hidden so that you can focus on the task at hand.

Figma was founded in 2012 by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace. Field had previously co-founded the online design platform InVision, while Wallace was a former software engineer at Facebook. The two were introduced by a mutual friend and decided to work together on Figma.

PRO TIP: Figma is a computer graphics program that allows users to create vector graphics. It is available for free and can be used on any operating system. However, Figma is not recommended for use by children under the age of 13.

The software was launched in 2015, after raising $14 million in seed funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Obvious Ventures. In 2016, Figma announced $25 million in Series A funding led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from existing investors.

In October 2018, Figma announced that it had raised $40 million in Series B funding led by Coatue Management, with participation from existing investors including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Obvious Ventures. This brought the company’s total funding to $72 million.
