In Photoshop Elements, the background is the area that surrounds the main image. The background color can be changed to any color you want, or even replaced with another image. You can also add text to the background, or use a gradient fill.

To change the background color:

1. Select the background layer in the Layers panel. 2. Choose a new color from the Color Picker. 3. Click OK to close the Color Picker.

4. Choose Edit > Fill Selection from the menu bar. 5. In the Use drop-down list, choose Background Color. 6. Click OK to close the dialog box. To replace the background with another image:

1. Choose Edit > Clear from the menu bar. This will remove everything from the layer and make it transparent.

3. Drag another image into Elements from a separate document, or choose File > Place from the menu bar. This will add the new image as a layer above the background layer. 4. Resize and position the new image as desired, then press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac) to place it.

You can also add text to the background:

1. Select the Type tool from the Tools panel (or press T on your keyboard). Click anywhere in the document window and type your text. Choose a font, font size, and color for your text using the options in the Character panel (Window > Character). To center your text horizontally on the page, choose Center Text from the Paragraph panel (Window > Paragraph).

Finally, you can use a gradient fill for your background:
