How to WooCommerce Customize Product Search?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 6:58 pm

WooCommerce is a powerful eCommerce plugin that helps you turn your WordPress website into an online store. One of the great things about using WooCommerce is that it is highly customizable. You can use plugins and themes to change the look and feel of your store, and you can also customize the functionality.

One area where you can customize WooCommerce is the product search. By default, WooCommerce uses a simple search form that looks for products by keyword. However, you can customize the search form to add more fields, or to change the way the search works.

In this article, we will show you how to customize the WooCommerce product search. We will cover two methods: using a plugin, and editing the code yourself.

Using a Plugin

There are several plugins that you can use to customize the WooCommerce product search. One of the most popular plugins is Advanced Custom Fields for WooCommerce. This plugin lets you add custom fields to the WooCommerce search form.

You can use this plugin to add text fields, select boxes, radio buttons, and more. This lets you create a more advanced search form that can help your customers find what they are looking for more easily.

Advanced Custom Fields for WooCommerce is available as a free plugin on the WordPress.org repository. However, there is also a premium version with more features starting at $49 per year.

Editing the Code Yourself

If you don’t want to use a plugin, or if you want more control over the product search form, then you can edit the code yourself. This requires some knowledge of PHP and WordPress development in general.

The first thing you need to do is create a child theme. This is important because it ensures that your changes will not be overwritten when you update WooCommerce or your theme. Once you have created a child theme, you need to edit the file called “searchform.php” in your child theme folder.

The searchform.php file contains the code for the default WooCommerce search form. You can edit this file to change the way the form looks or works. For example, you could add extra fields to the form, or change the way the search works so that it searches by product SKU instead of keyword.

Once you have made your changes, save the file and upload it to your child theme folder on your server. Your changes will now be live on your website.

After going through this article, hopefully, now you know how easy it is to

WooCommerce Customize Product Search.

If not using a plugin there are still lots of options available by editing code yourself giving you full control over product search forms on WooCommerce

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with code or are not comfortable working with code, do not attempt to customize WooCommerce product search. Customizing WooCommerce product search can be complex and time-consuming, and if done incorrectly, can break your site.
