Is Azure SQL compatible with SQL Server?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 11:59 am

Azure SQL is a Microsoft SQL Server database that runs in the cloud. It has many of the features of SQL Server, including the ability to use Transact-SQL commands and procedures. However, Azure SQL is not a full SQL Server database. For example, it does not support full text search, table partitioning, or data warehousing.

PRO TIP: There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as it depends on the specific configuration and features being used. However, in general, Azure SQL is compatible with SQL Server, but there may be some differences in performance and functionality.

Additionally, Azure SQL does not support SQL Server Express. Azure SQL is a great option for small businesses that do not need the full features of SQL Server, but want the convenience of the cloud.
