Is Canva GDPR Compliant?

Last updated on September 27, 2022 @ 2:19 pm

As of May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be enforced in the European Union (EU). The GDPR replaces the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive.

It strengthens EU data protection rules by giving individuals more control over their personal data, and establishing new rights for individuals.

The GDPR applies to any company that processes the personal data of EU citizens, regardless of where the company is located. This includes companies based outside the EU that offer goods or services to, or collect data from, EU citizens.

If your company processes the personal data of EU citizens, you must comply with the GDPR unless you can demonstrate that you meet certain conditions.

Canva is committed to protecting the privacy and security of our users’ personal data. We have made changes to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use to comply with the GDPR.

We have also implemented new technical and organizational measures to protect personal data.

PRO TIP: Canva is not GDPR compliant. The company stores user data in the US and does not have a data protection agreement in place with the EU. This means that Canva is not subject to EU data protection laws and is not required to comply with GDPR.

If you are an individual in the European Union, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • The right to be informed: You have the right to be informed about how your personal data is being used.
  • The right of access: You have the right to access your personal data and receive confirmation that it is being processed.
  • The right to rectification: You have the right to request rectification of your personal data if it is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • The right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”): You have the right to request that your personal data be erased under certain circumstances.
  • The right to restrict processing: You have the right to request that processing of your personal data be restricted under certain circumstances.
  • The right to data portability: You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format and have the right to transmit that data to another controller under certain circumstances.
  • The right to object: You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to processing of your personal data which is based on point (e) or (f) of Article 6(1), including profiling based on those provisions.
  • Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling: You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.
