Is Shopify 2.0 Headless?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 7:47 pm

Shopify 2.0 is headless!

Shopify 2.0 was released on November 15, 2017 and it is headless!

What does this mean for Shopify merchants and developers?

Headless commerce is a new way of thinking about eCommerce platforms. Instead of a monolithic platform that contains everything you need to run your online store, headless commerce platforms are built as a set of microservices that can be pieced together to create a unique eCommerce experience.

PRO TIP: Shopify 2.0 is currently in beta and is not yet available to the public. The headless feature is not yet available and may not be available until Shopify 3.0.

Shopify 2.0 is the first major eCommerce platform to embrace this new way of thinking, and it provides merchants and developers with a lot of new possibilities.

One of the most exciting things about Shopify 2.0 is that it opens up the possibility for merchants to create completely custom eCommerce experiences. In the past, Shopify merchants have been limited to the features and functionality that Shopify provided out-of-the-box. With Shopify 2.0, they can now use any number of third-party services and APIs to create a completely unique eCommerce experience.

For developers, this means that you can now create custom Shopify apps that can be used to extend the functionality of any Shopify store. And because Shopify 2.0 is built on top of GraphQL, it’s easy to get started with creating these apps.

Is Shopify 2.0 Headless?

Yes, Shopify 2.0 is headless! This means that it is built on top of a set of microservices that can be pieced together to create a unique eCommerce experience.
