Is Shopify CMS Headless?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:40 pm

Shopify is a cloud-based, multi-channel commerce platform designed for small and medium-sized businesses. Shopify offers a professional online storefront, a payment gateway, inventory management, and shipping.

Shopify is one of the most popular eCommerce platforms on the market today. And for good reason – it’s easy to use, has tons of features, and is very scalable. But one thing that sets Shopify apart from other eCommerce platforms is that it’s headless.

PRO TIP: Shopify CMS is a headless content management system. This means that it does not have a user interface and can only be used by developers who are familiar with coding. If you are not a developer, we do not recommend using Shopify CMS.

What does that mean? A headless eCommerce platform is one that doesn’t have a front-end (or “head”) layer. That means that you can use any programming language or framework to build your front-end, as long as it can connect to Shopify’s APIs.

This is a big deal because it gives you a lot of flexibility when it comes to building your eCommerce store. You’re not limited to using Shopify’s templates or themes – you can build anything you want. And since Shopify is a hosted platform, you don’t have to worry about infrastructure or scalability either.

If you’re looking for an eCommerce platform that gives you the freedom to build anything you want, then Shopify is definitely worth considering. Just keep in mind that because it’s headless, you will need to put in some extra work to get things up and running.
