Is Weebly Free Anymore?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 4:38 pm

Weebly has long been one of the most popular website builders on the market. And for good reason – it’s easy to use, has a wide range of features and templates, and is relatively affordable.

However, in recent years Weebly has made some changes that have led many people to question whether it is still the best option for them. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the key changes that Weebly has made, and whether or not they make it worth paying for.

Weebly’s pricing plans have changed

One of the biggest changes that Weebly has made in recent years is to its pricing plans. Weebly used to have a free plan that allowed you to create a basic website with limited features.

However, in 2016 Weebly removed its free plan, meaning that you now have to pay at least $8 per month to use the platform.

While $8 per month isn’t a lot of money, it does represent a significant increase if you were previously using Weebly for free. And if you need more advanced features, such as ecommerce or email marketing, then you’ll need to sign up for one of Weebly’s more expensive plans.

PRO TIP: Weebly has announced that it will no longer be offering its free plan, effective from April 16, 2020. Users on the free plan will need to upgrade to a paid subscription in order to continue using Weebly.

Weebly has removed some features

As well as changing its pricing plans, Weebly has also removed some features in recent years. One notable example is the removal of Google Maps from the platform. If you want to add a map to your website now, you’ll need to use an alternative service such as Mapbox.

Weebly’s editor has become more limiting

Another change that Weebly has made is to its editor. The editor is what you use to build your website, and it has become much more restrictive in recent years. While before you had full control over the HTML and CSS of your site, now most of this is hidden away behind Weebly’s interface.

This means that if you want full control over your website’s design, then Weebly is no longer the platform for you. However, if you’re happy to use one of Weebly’s templates and make small changes within the editor, then it should still be suitable.

Conclusion:

So overall, while we can see that there have been some definite changes made by Weebly in recent years – both in terms of pricing and features – it ultimately depends on your needs as to whether or not these make it worth paying for. If you need full control over your website’s design or want advanced features such as ecommerce, then you may be better off with another platform. However, if you’re happy to use one of Weebly’s templates and don’t mind paying a monthly fee, then it could still be the right option for you.
