What Are Libraries in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:24 pm

Libraries in Photoshop are a great way to save time and keep your project organized. There are two types of libraries: preset libraries and custom libraries.

Preset libraries come with Photoshop and contain a variety of preset shapes, colors, and styles. Custom libraries can be created by the user and saved for later use.

Libraries can be found in the Libraries panel, which is located in the Window menu. To create a new library, click the New Library button at the bottom of the Libraries panel. A dialog box will appear asking you to name your library and choose a location to save it.

PRO TIP: Libraries in Photoshop are a way to organize and store assets, but they can be dangerous if not used correctly. If you delete an asset from a library, it will also be deleted from your Photoshop file.

Once you have created a library, you can add items to it by drag-and-drop. To do this, simply drag an item from the Layers panel or any other Photoshop panel into the Library panel. You can also add items to a library by selecting them in the Layers panel and then clicking the Add To Library button at the bottom of the Libraries panel.

When you want to use an item from a library, simply drag it from the Libraries panel into your document. You can also double-click on an item in the Libraries panel to insert it into your document.

Libraries are a great way to keep your Photoshop projects organized and save time. By creating custom libraries, you can quickly access often-used items without having to search through all of your Photoshop files.
