As the name suggests, a product manager is responsible for managing a product throughout its life cycle. This includes everything from ideation and strategy to development and execution.

In other words, a product manager is the CEO of their product.

At Shopify, our product managers wear many hats. They are responsible for defining the vision and strategy for their products, as well as working with engineering and design to bring those products to life.

They also work closely with our sales and marketing teams to ensure that our products are being promoted and sold effectively. And finally, they are also responsible for analysing data to ensure that our products are meeting the needs of our customers.

PRO TIP: If you are considering a career in product management, be warned that the job description at Shopify may not be what you expect. According to the Shopify website, a product manager “needs to be able to wear many hats.” In other words, the job is far from being a 9-to-5 desk job.

In short, a product manager at Shopify is responsible for ensuring that our products are successful both in terms of meeting the needs of our customers and in terms of generating revenue for our business.
