What Happened to Photoshop Patterns?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 9:10 pm

Photoshop patterns were once a popular way to add simple, repetitive textures to web designs. But what happened to them?

For those who don’t remember, Photoshop patterns were small images that could be tiled to create a background texture. They were popular in the early days of web design because they offered a way to add some visual interest to a page without having to use a large image, which could slow down page loading times.

PRO TIP: If you are looking for Photoshop Patterns, they have been moved to the Libraries panel.

However, patterns fell out of favour in recent years as designers began to prefer more subtle textures and background images. Part of the reason for this is that patterns can often look dated and tacky if they’re not used judiciously. In addition, many of the best patterns are now available as CSS background images, which can be applied directly to web pages without the need for Photoshop.

So if you’re still using Photoshop patterns in your web designs, it might be time to rethink your approach. There are plenty of other ways to add texture and interest to your pages, so experiment and find what works best for you.
