What Happens When You Pause Your Shopify Store?

Last updated on January 8, 2023 @ 4:10 pm

When you pause your Shopify store, your website will be taken offline and your customers will no longer be able to see or purchase your products. Your domain will remain active, but it will redirect to a page that says “This store is paused” .

All of your data will still be stored on Shopify’s servers, and you can unpause your store at any time.

There are a few reasons why you might want to pause your Shopify store. Maybe you’re taking a break from selling, or maybe you’re redesigning your store and need some time to make changes. Pausing your store is a good way to make sure that your customers don’t see any unfinished changes, and it can also help you save on Shopify’s monthly fees.

If you’re not sure whether you want to permanently close your store or just take a break, pausing is a good option. You can always unpause your store later if you decide that you want to start selling again. And if you do decide to close your store permanently, pausing it first will give you a chance to download all of your data before it is deleted.

PRO TIP: If you pause your Shopify store, your website will no longer be accessible to customers. Your products will still be visible in search engines, but customers will not be able to purchase them. If you unpause your store, your products will be available for purchase again.

To pause your Shopify store:

  • From the Shopify app, go to Store > Settings. Under General, tap Store status.
  • Tap Pause Store, then enter the reason why you’re pausing your store and tap Pause my store. Your customers will see a message saying that the store is paused when they try to visit it.
