What Happens When You Run Out of Connects on UpWork?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 10:23 pm

If you’re a freelancer, you’re probably familiar with UpWork. It’s a popular website where businesses and individuals can post job openings for freelancers to apply to.

Once you’ve been hired for a job, you and the client will communicate and work through UpWork’s messaging system and job tracking features. But what happens when you run out of connects on UpWork?

If you’ve been freelancing for awhile, you may have noticed that you have a limited number of “connects” that you can use each month. Connects are basically like credits that allow you to apply to jobs.

Once you’ve used up all your connects, you can’t apply to any more jobs until the next month.

PRO TIP: If you run out of connects on Upwork, you will no longer be able to submit proposals for jobs. This means that you will not be able to find work through Upwork and will need to look for other ways to find clients.

This can be frustrating, especially if you’re in the middle of applying to a bunch of jobs and then suddenly run out of connects. But don’t worry, there are a few things you can do if this happens to you:

  • First, check to see if the job is still active. Sometimes clients will leave a job posting up even after they’ve hired someone. If the job is no longer active, then there’s no point in applying anyway.
  • Second, see if there are any other similar jobs that you can apply to.

Just because one job posting is closed doesn’t mean there aren’t others out there that are similar and still open.

  • Third, try contacting the client directly. If you have a good feeling about a particular job but it’s closed, reach out to the client through UpWork’s messaging system and express your interest in working with them. They may be willing to hire you directly or give you some connect credits so that you can apply to their job posting.

Running out of connects on UpWork doesn’t have to be the end of the world. There are still plenty of ways to find new clients and get hired for great jobs.
