What Is a Library in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 10:03 pm

A library in Figma is a collection of design elements that you can reuse in your projects. Libraries can contain anything from colors and typography to components and icons.

You can create your own libraries, or use libraries that others have shared publicly. Libraries make it easy to stay consistent with your design system, and save time by reusing elements that you’ve already created.

PRO TIP: This article is about the Figma library feature, and how to use it effectively. It is not a comprehensive guide to all things Figma. If you are new to Figma, or are looking for a general introduction to the software, we recommend checking out our other article, ‘Figma for Beginners.’

To use a library, simply click on the “Add to library” icon in the top bar of Figma. You can then select which library you’d like to add the element to, or create a new library. Once an element has been added to a library, it will be available for use in any other project that you have open.

Libraries are an essential part of Figma, and a great way to keep your designs consistent and organized. If you’re not already using them, we recommend giving them a try!
