What Is a Private App Shopify?

A private app is an app that you create yourself, or hire someone to create for you. It’s a way to add functionality to your Shopify store that isn’t available in the Shopify App Store. You can use a private app to:

    1. Access data that is not available through the Shopify API.

If you want to access data that is not available through the Shopify API, you can use a private app. For example, if you want to access data about abandoned checkouts, orders placed on hold, or customers who have created accounts but never placed an order, you need to use a private app.

    2. Modify existing data.

If you want to modify existing data in your shop, you can use a private app. For example, if you want to add a note to an order, edit a customer’s address, or cancel an abandoned checkout, you need to use a private app.

    3. Automate tasks.

If you want to automate tasks in your shop, you can use a private app. For example, if you want to automatically fulfill orders when they’re placed, or send abandoned checkout emails after a certain amount of time, you need to use a private app.

PRO TIP: A private app is an app that Shopify creates for a specific merchant. This type of app can only be installed by the merchant who creates it, and it can only be used by that merchant. Private apps have access to the same APIs that public apps do, so they can do anything that a public app can do. However, because they are not listed in the Shopify App Store, they are not discoverable by other merchants.
