What Is AMP for Shopify?

The term “AMP” stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages. It is an open source project that was started by Google in order to improve the loading speed of web pages on mobile devices. AMP pages are designed to load faster than traditional web pages, and they can be used to improve the user experience on sites that are heavy on images and videos.

Shopify is a platform that allows businesses to create online stores. Shopify has partnered with Google to offer AMP pages to its users. This means that businesses using Shopify can now create AMP pages that load quickly on mobile devices.

AMP pages are not just faster; they are also designed to be more user-friendly. For example, AMP pages do not allow advertising or other forms of intrusive content that can slow down the loading of a page. This makes them ideal for businesses that want to improve the user experience on their site without compromising on speed.

There are a few things to keep in mind when creating AMP pages for Shopify:

1. Make sure your content is mobile-friendly: Use short paragraphs, bullet points, and easy-to-read fonts.

2. Optimize your images: Resize your images so that they load quickly on mobile devices. You can also use a service like Cloudinary to optimize your images for delivery on AMP pages.

3. Use AMP-specific components: Shopify’s AMP pages make use of special “AMP HTML” components that are designed to load quickly on mobile devices.

These components include things like carousels, lightboxes, and accordions. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these components before creating your AMP pages.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that AMP for Shopify is still in beta and is not yet available to all users. If you are interested in using AMP for your Shopify store, we recommend that you sign up for the waitlist.

4. Test your pages: Before publishing your AMP pages, be sure to test them on a variety of devices to make sure they look and work as intended. You can use the Google Search Console tool to test your AMP pages before they go live.

AMP is a great way to improve the loading speed of your Shopify store’s pages on mobile devices. By following the tips above, you can create AMP pages that are both fast and user-friendly.
