What Is Clip Content on Figma?

Clip content is a way to manage and reuse design elements in Figma. When you clip content, it’s saved as a reference in your Library, and can be used again in any other file.

To clip content, select the element you want to clip, then click the “Clip” button in the toolbar. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + K.

When you clip content, Figma will save a reference to that element in your Library. You can use this reference to insert the element into any other file.

To do this, simply drag the reference from your Library into your canvas. The element will be inserted at the same position and size as it was when you clipped it.

PRO TIP: Clip content is a feature in Figma that allows you to quickly create variations of an element by duplicating it and swapping out the contents. This can be a great time-saver, but it’s important to be aware that any changes you make to the original element will also be applied to all of its clones. So, if you’re not careful, you could end up with a lot of unwanted changes!

You can also use clipping to create variations of an element. For example, if you have a button that you want to use in multiple places but with different text, you can clip the button and then insert it into each file with the different text. Simply double-click on the element and enter the new text.
