What Is the Built-in Domain on Squarespace?

When you create a website with Squarespace, you’re automatically assigned a built-in domain. This is a temporary, automatically generated domain that you can use while you’re building your site.

Once you connect a custom domain, the built-in domain becomes an alias for your custom domain, and visitors can reach your site using either address.

Your built-in domain is composed of a word or phrase followed by “Squarespace.com.” The word or phrase is automatically generated based on the title of your site.

For example, if your site’s title is “John’s Bakery,” your built-in domain would be johnsbakery.Squarespace.

You can find your built-in domain in the Home Menu. Click Settings, then click Domains.

The built-in domain is free to use as long as you have a Squarespace account. You can keep using it even after you connect a custom domain. If you ever want to remove the built-in domain from your site, you can unalias it from your custom domain.
