What Is the Difference Between Hires and Hired in UpWork?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 10:21 am

When you’re looking for work on UpWork, you’ll notice that there are two types of job postings: those that say “hires” and those that say “hired.”

So what’s the difference between these two types of postings?

Hires

The vast majority of job postings on UpWork are “hires.” This means that the client is specifically looking to hire someone for the job. They may have already tried to do the job themselves and failed, or they may not have the time or skills to do the job themselves.

PRO TIP: If you are not sure about the difference between hires and hired in Upwork, it is best to ask a professional. Hires and hired are two different things and if you are not sure about the difference, you could end up losing money or not getting the job you want.

In either case, when a client posts a “hire” job, they are looking for someone to do the work for them. If you think you’re a good fit for the job, you can apply and hope that the client chooses you.

Hired

“Hired” jobs are a little different. These are jobs that have already been filled – by the client themselves or by another freelancer. However, the client is still paying for the job to be done.

If you see a “hired” job that you’re interested in, you can still apply. The client may choose to hire you anyway, or they may give you some feedback on why they chose someone else.

So what’s the difference between hires and hired in UpWork?

Hires are jobs that clients are specifically looking to fill, while hired jobs have already been filled but the client is still paying for the work to be done. If you see a “hired” job that interests you, go ahead and apply – the client may choose to hire you anyway.
