Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. for macOS and Windows. Photoshop was created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, it has become the de facto industry standard in raster graphics editing, such that the word “photoshop” has become a verb as in “to Photoshop an image,” “photo shopping” and “photo shopped.”

A large portion of its features are geared towards editing and retouching digital photographs. However, Photoshop is capable of much more than that. It can be used for crafting layouts for web design, creating graphics and logos, editing videos, simulating paintings, and more.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that the history of Adobe Photoshop is a long and complicated one. There are many different versions of the software, and it can be difficult to keep track of all the changes. Additionally, there is a lot of information available on the internet about Photoshop, and not all of it is accurate. If you are researching the history of Adobe Photoshop, be sure to consult multiple sources and cross-check your information.
