What Is Zooming and Panning in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 3:56 pm

Zooming and panning is a process of moving around an image in Photoshop. The zoom tool allows you to magnify or decrease the view of an image. The pan tool allows you to move the image within the window.

PRO TIP: Zooming and panning in Photoshop can be a great way to get a closer look at your images or to move around your workspace. However, if you’re not careful, it’s easy to accidentally zoom in too far or pan too fast. Be sure to keep an eye on your image size and position so you don’t lose your place.

To zoom in on an image, select the zoom tool from the toolbar and click on the image. To zoom out, hold down the Alt key and click on the image. To pan around an image, select the pan tool from the toolbar and click and drag the image within the window.
