What Kind of Barcode Does Shopify Use?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:13 pm

Barcodes are a machine-readable representation of data that is most commonly used in tracking inventory levels and identifying products. There are two main types of barcodes in use today: linear or 1D barcodes, and 2D or matrix barcodes.

PRO TIP: Barcodes are used to track inventory and can be scanned to provide information about a product. There are different types of barcodes, and Shopify uses the most common type, called an EAN code. This type of barcode is used by major retailers and is compatible with most barcode scanners. However, some scanners may not be able to read EAN codes, so it’s important to check with the manufacturer before using one.

Shopify uses linear or 1D barcodes.

Linear barcodes are created by printing a series of parallel lines of varying widths. The distance between the lines represents different characters in the data encoded in the barcode. Linear barcodes can store up to 20 characters of information.
