Where Do Shopify Refunds Go?

When you process a refund on Shopify, the refund automatically goes back to the original payment method that was used to pay for the order.

For example, if someone paid for their order with a credit card, and you processed a refund for that order on Shopify, then the refund would automatically go back to their credit card.

Please Note: If the original payment method is no longer valid (for example, if the credit card expired), then you will need to issue a manual refund.

To issue a manual refund:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Orders.
2. Click the order number for the order that you want to refund.
3. In the Order details section, click Issue refund.
4. In the Refund details section, do the following:
5. In the “Refund amount” field, enter the amount that you want to refund.
6. In the “Reason for refund” field, enter a brief description of why you’re issuing the refund.
