Why can I not crop in Illustrator?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 7:06 pm

Illustrator is a great vector drawing program that can be used to create illustrations, logos, and more. One of the features that makes Illustrator great is its ability to crop images.

However, there can sometimes be reasons why you may not be able to crop images in Illustrator.

PRO TIP: When attempting to crop in Illustrator, you may receive the following warning: “Cannot crop due to a raster effect.” This is because raster images (such as photos) cannot be cropped in Illustrator. To crop a raster image, you will need to use an image editing program such as Photoshop.

One possible reason why you may not be able to crop images in Illustrator is because the image is locked. When an image is locked, you may not be able to make any changes to it, including cropping.

This is because the image is protected by Illustrator’s security features.

If you are unable to crop an image because it is locked, you may need to ask your Illustrator support team for assistance. They may be able to help you unlock the image so that you can crop it.
